Panasonic announces new compact camera range including the powerful new LUMIX DMC-TZ60, as well as the DMC-LZ40 AND DMC-SZ8
24th Feb 2014
Panasonic is proud to introduce its latest flagship in the popular pocket-sized TZ series - the LUMIX DMC-TZ60. The DMC-TZ60 makes significant upgrades from its predecessor for more advanced photography in an incredibly slim and stylish package.
The DMC-TZ60 is the world’s slimmest digital compact camera with a LVF (Live View Finder) and boasts a powerful 30x optical ultra zoom LEICA lens, crystal clear 18.1-megapixel picture quality, and Full HD video recording.
The camera also offers advanced functions such as manual control with Control Ring, RAW compatibility and Focus Peaking.
Other convenient features include an in-built GPS system, Wi-Fi functionality, and fifteen filter effects.
Doug Campbell, Product Marketing Manager, LUMIX, Panasonic Australia, said: “The DMC-TZ60 has been engineered to fit a host of premium features inside its ultra-slim body, making it the perfect travel companion or every-day camera.”
Convenience for the traveller
Using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, the DMC-TZ60 makes Wi-Fi connection easy. By just touching a NFC compatible smartphone or tablet to the camera, you can use your smart device as a remote control, or transfer data to it.
The Panasonic Image App enables remote shooting and viewing modes as well as Geotagging and Instant Transfer. ‘Instant Transfer’ allows data to be transferred automatically to the designated electronic device whenever the shutter is released. Users can also save photos to the Panasonic exclusive cloud service ‘LUMIX CLUB’ and easily transfer still images or MP4 videos to Facebook™, Flickr™, Picasa™, Twitter™ or YouTube™.
The Wi-Fi Direct function allows direct playback of images on DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) compliant VIERA HD TVs or Blu-ray Recorders .
Integrated advanced GPS system
The GPS embedded in the DMC-TZ60 complies with GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System) to further enhance its geographic accuracy. The DMC-TZ60 shows the name of the Country, State, City, and Landmark to give users real-time information when taking photos, making this the perfect travel companion. Additionally, the camera’s internal clock is automatically adjusted to the local time.
Outstanding Imaging features
Powerful 30x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabiliser
The DMC-TZ60 incorporates a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR 24mm ultra wide angle 30x optical zoom lens. Thanks to Intelligent Resolution Technology, users are able to extend the zoom ratio to 60x with minimum deterioration of picture quality. Panasonic’s advanced Hybrid OIS+ optical image stabiliser suppresses hand-shake vibration during high-zoom shooting.
High image and video quality
The 18.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor and Venus Engine image processor feature high-speed, high-sensitivity image recording, resulting in smooth 1920 x 1080 50p Full-HD video recording in AVCHD progressive format, and high speed burst shooting at 10 frames per second. Quick start-up and Light Speed Auto Focus capture fleeting shooting opportunities.
The DMC-TZ60 can also record video in MP4 format. All videos are recorded in Dolby Digital for realistic stereo sound, and an Auto Wind Cut function blocks out background noise.
The Hybrid OIS+ optical image stabiliser offers five-axis correction in video recording to compensate for five types of movement – horizontal, vertical, axis of rotation, vertical rotation and horizontal rotation. Level Shot keeps the horizontal image steady even if the camera is tilted.
Live View Finder (LVF)
The camera is equipped with a 0.2-inch LVF with 200K-dot resolution, ensuring high visibility of the live view images even under direct sunlight; and offers stable framing when shooting with high zoom.
For further control, the camera incorporates Focus Peaking, which can be monitored in Live View. This feature shows the peak of focus in MF mode. The colour can also be changed to blue, white or orange, according to the colour of the shooting scene.
The DMC-TZ60 is the first camera in the TZ Series to shoot images in RAW. The embedded software allows high quality image processing from RAW to JPEG. Users can also adjust images in 16 bit data and convert to JPEG with minimum deterioration of image quality.
Manual control for creative freedom
The DMC-TZ60 provides full manual control in manual mode. The Control Ring embedded in the camera enables direct and intuitive control over frequently-used settings such as aperture, shutter speed, precision focusing, and filters.
Simultaneously, Panasonic will release two new ultra-slim digital compact cameras in its compact range - the DMC-LZ40 and the DMC-SZ8.
The DMC-LZ40 is ideal for capturing landscapes and distant subjects. It features a powerful 42x optical zoom lens, with a 22mm ultra wide angle, integrated with an Optical Image Stabiliser. Other convenient features to achieve pleasing shooting results include Panasonic’s iA (Intelligent Auto) mode and up to 15 Creative Filters available for photo, video and panorama photos.
The DMC-SZ8 features a 12x optical zoom, 24mm ultra wide angle lens and 16-megapixel sensor for high-resolution images. A dedicated motion picture button enables 720 HD video recording to start instantly, making it extremely convenient for users to switch between photo and video shooting. The SZ8 also includes Wi-Fi capability for connectivity with smartphones and tablets using the Panasonic Image App.
